Class 1 Homework

Homework details will be posted weekly on a Friday to be handed in by the following Thursday or Friday. Please look at the relevant year group column below.

Reading

Reception: At the start of term, your child will receive a book with no pictures. Please share this with your child to allow them to get used to sharing books on a regular basis with you.

At the start of Term 2, the children will receive two Read, Write Inc book bag books which match the phonics sounds taught in class. Please reread these books with them. Encourage them to sound out the sounds in the words - we call this 'Fred Talk' at school and then blend them back together to read the word. Please write comments in the yellow reading record books and return them on a Thursday or Friday. Please practise the 'red' words sent home which will be added to over the year.

Year 1 & 2 : Two Read Write Inc. reading books will be issued on a Friday to be returned the following week. Please reread these books to develop fluency. These need to be sent back every week to allow us to reissue them.

Once year 2 children have completed the RWI reading programme they will be issued with one reading book.

At the start of Spring 1 term (January) Year 2 children will start to receive a reading comprehension to complete alongside their reading book. Please encourage your child to complete this independently in the first instance and offer support if they find any questions tricky.

Phonics/spelling rules

Phonics videos for all the RWI sounds are available under the Parents Learning support section of the school website. The Year 2 spelling rule information will be added here weekly. Please encourage your child to write a list of words containing the phonics sound or spelling rule into their word work book. Please ask them to write neatly in pencil.

Maths

IXL maths challenges - set out via the homework sheet by year group.

Times Tables Rockstars: Year 2 - Please use this online platform to help you to learn your timetables - please focus on 2,5,10 and 3.

Year 1 - Times Tables Rockstars Passwords will be issued during the last term to allow children to start to practise in preparation for Year 2.

Natterhub

A follow up lesson will be posted for the children to complete after they have taken part in a Natterhub online safety lesson in school. Details will be added to the homework sheet.
